The Effective Manager Program is a 10-module program where managers learn the essential skills they need to help them be effective when managing. The program is facilitated virtually, for half a day (4-hours) every 3-weeks, with tangible, practical outcomes that can be implemented immediately in the workplace.
The Effective Manager Program offers a unique learning experience where managers from various companies come together as a cohort to work through the program. This platform allows managers to learn from fellow managers, while working through the specific content delivered through the program. This peer-to-peer learning and accountability ensures maximum commitment and engagement in the program, as well as providing managers the opportunity to expand their network of peers who are all going through similar experiences of management.
While working through the structured program, each manager will report back on their experiences, learnings and share any wins or struggles that they have been experiencing.
Since launching the public program in Sept 2021, we’ve put over 140 managers through the program, with an average session rating of 9.1/10.
We also offer the option to facilitate this program internally for organisations with 6 or more managers that they want to put through the program. Modules, format and cadence for internal programs can be customised to suit your needs.
Human Tribe is currently licensing and accrediting organisations and consultants in The Effective Manager Program. The licence includes a Facilitator Guide, PowerPoint presentation and Participant Workbooks for all modules.

The Effective Manager Program is for:
- Anyone who manages people
- Anyone who has been identified as a high potential for a future management role
- Business owners who wants to improve their management skills
One of Gallup’s most famous leadership breakthroughs is that 70% of the variance between the highest engaged teams and persistently disengaged teams comes down to the manager. Unfortunately, worldwide, only 20% of full-time employees are engaged in their job.
Can you see the link?
We don’t believe that anyone sets out to be an “ineffective manager”, but unfortunately, because managers aren’t often given the training and support they need to fulfil their roles, that becomes the result, “ineffective managers”, which in turn creates disengaged teams which in turn impacts the organisation.
More often than not, people are promoted to a management role because they are technically good at their job, but are given no training on how to fulfil their role effectively. So, they end up with a disengaged team producing disappointing results, which inevitably impacts the bottom line. Through no fault of their own, they are set up for failure.
We have seen this time and time again in the organisations that we work with. Managers who lack capability and are not given the support to do what is required of them within their role.
Our experience with clients has also been backed by data. Research from the HR Coach Research Institute indicates that the overarching trend that emerges from the data is that management is being neglected and that there is a direct correlation between how your employees feel about their manager and how well your business performs.
So, if business performance hinges on the effectiveness of your managers, can you afford not to invest? Fortunately, management skills can be learnt, and when learnt appropriately, it can allow them to be not only become an effective manager, but an effective leader.
This is where our Effective Manager Program comes in.
Human tribe have been running bespoke versions of this program internally for our clients for years. We have decided to make it available to organisations that don’t have the capability to offer the training internally.
Based off the pre and post self-assessments of the last cohort who completed the program, the average increase across 30 questions that align to the 10 modules was 30%.
Here’s a breakdown of some key improvements. Participants reported a:
- 44% increase in their ability to coach in the moment
- 43% increase in their ability to address underperformance and hold it to account
- 39% increase in their ability to effectively influence their team
- 36% increase in their ability to hold team members accountable
- 35% increase in their ability to recognise the individual needs of people they work with when it comes to directing, delegating, motivating, and developing
- 33% increase in their ability to communicate effective feedback
Participants reported a 34% increase in their overall effectiveness as a manager.
Session 1: Setting Intentions

This will include everything from a phone screen, to interview preparation, to completing the interview. Managers will be taught the essential skills of behavioural based questioning and drilling down to ensure that their interviews are effectively conducted in a matter that will gather conclusive information about the candidate.

Managers will then discuss the elements that come in to play around presence and how they can be more in control of the way they show up.

They will complete a selfevaluation to rate themselves on how often they show up as a coach and identify ways that they can improve. Managers will then be introduced to the 5 steps for effective coaching in the workplace and explore how they can effectively coach in the moment.
By the end of this session, managers will be able to:

- Show an ability to practically apply coaching techniques for coaching a new skill and coaching in the moment.
Session 8: Hold to Account
Managers will explore what it means to hold a team member to account by identifying what a team with accountability vs one without it looks like. By understanding the key areas of accountability and how to address underperformance, managers will leave with the knowledge and skills necessary to have the ‘tough conversations’ around underperformance.
By the end of this session, managers will be able to:
- As a Manager, understand why holding to account is important
- Define and differentiate performance management and performance development
- Understand the 4 key areas for accountability and how to embed them in the workplace
- Give feedback to team members following the ‘5 steps for effective feedback’ framework
Session 9: Time Management
Managers will be introduced to the concept that time management equals self-management and that if time seems out of control, then it is because they need to learn new, more appropriate habits. Managers will explore the psychology behind habit formation and will be introduced to various areas of time management, including prioritisation, time blocking, meeting preparation and setting boundaries around their time.
By the end of this session, managers will be able to:
- Understand the psychology behind habit formation
- Identify their strengths and limitations in time management

boundaries around their time
Session 10: Problem Solving
In this session, managers will be introduced to root cause analysis (RCA). Managers will work through the 6-steps of RCA for a live problem they are dealing with and leave the session with a solution that they can implement and evaluate back in their workplace. At the end of this session, managers will complete a post program review on their personal growth and development over the past 10-modules and identify areas still requiring development.
By the end of this session, managers will be able to:
- Understand that identifying the root cause of a problem is key to preventing future mistakes and implementing long-lasting solutions that drive successful business outcomes
- Implement the 6-step root cause analysis tool to identify what, how and why an event occurred
- Identify the root cause and a solution for a live problem they are dealing with and make a plan to implement the solution back in their workplace

The Effective Manager Program?
“Through attending ‘The Effective Manager’ program by Human Tribe I have rapidly accelerated my skill development to a level I believe would ordinarily take years of management experience to develop. With any course or program you only get out what you put in and with Jess as the facilitator she successfully encouraged all involved to put in their all. Jess was extremely motivating to work with throughout the entire program. The content of the program whilst being topic specific can relate to any and every industry. I personally would recommend Human Tribe and specifically ‘The Effective Manager’ program to anyone in any leadership position.” – Iszac Oliver
“The invaluable tools and insights learnt from the Effective Manager Program is one thing, but the facilitation by Jess is undeniably engaging. She simplifies everything, making it easy for anyone to understand and I looked forward to what each session would bring. I would recommend this program to any manager!” – Ninna Dorgan
“I found so much value in The Effective Manager course – each week covered a new topic that helped hone my skills as a new manager. I loved the way Jess facilitated the sessions and brought the group together to share challenges and wins relevant to the topics each week. It was informative, useful and fun and I am already leveraging so much of what I learned to become a better manager.” – Lauren Wridgway
“I would definitely recommend this program to all managers, old and new. It gives a great overview of the most important parts of being a manager. It provides really useful tools and strategies in overcoming difficult situations that managers face. Jess makes really good use of the time provided and gets the group engaged and participating. Jess is very knowledgeable on all the areas she is showing and doesn’t simply run off the book or slides – a lot of knowledge is provided from personal experiences and examples and makes it really easy to relate to.” – Colby Robards
“I highly recommend this course to both a first time manager or someone who has managed for many years. For me, being a first time manager this course has been perfect. It has opened my eyes to so many factors that comes with managing. I have learnt how to effectively work with different personalities, improve my listening & questioning skills, how to effectively conduct an interview, onboard new staff members plus many more. I have taken away many skills and knowledge that will follow me throughout my career and I can confidently say that this course has made me become a better manager and I am extremely grateful for Jess and her team who have done such an amazing job with this course.” – Meg Jolley
“Jess was amazing and although I had 25 years of management, I felt engaged and excited to learn new things and management styles.” – Program attendee
“Jess is absolutely brilliant. I’ve learnt an incredible amount during the past year – from having difficult conversation, the importance of onboarding and giving/receiving feedback. They are skills I will take with me throughout the rest of my career journey.” – Brittany Hayes
“The Effective Manager Program with Jess was something I looked forward to every month for a year! I can’t speak more highly of Jess and her program. I started lacking confidence in some areas of management and left feeling equipped and armed to be the best leader I can be. Do it Do it Do it!” – Gaby Ptasznik
“For someone who had no intention of doing a manager role & lacked a lot of confidence in myself doing the role, I’m so glad my manager suggested I do this program. I have found this program very beneficial. The tools this program gave me has given me the confidence I lacked to carry out my role. Being able to have the skills to coach the staff and ways that would suit them, so they understand in their way. I would highly recommend this program.” – Nikki Holbrook
“Whilst I was uncertain about attending a course via remote online meetings, this was not an obstacle at all. Jess has set up the course to totally accommodate this and I have felt very connected to the group to participate throughout each session. By the end of the course, I felt like I was visiting with friends. It has been a very enriching experience as I have learnt so many things to add to my Manager Tool-box. Highly recommend.” – Leanne James
“An absolutely amazing program for any manager to complete, it gives you a better self awareness and understanding of your managing styles and how to better work with people with different management styles than yourself, it helps you with being able to speak with your manager more and gives great coaching and development methods.” – Program attendee
“At first I didn’t know if I would like it, as it’s outside my comfort zone but after seeing how easy it is to talk and act around Jess I was actually more comfortable and started speaking up in the sessions. Jess was really nice and welcomed every opinion and is passionate about what she does. I loved the program and would recommend it to everyone, I actually did recommend to a friend for their own company” – Program attendee
“The best thing I’ve ever done thank you Jess.” – Program attendee
What makes this program different from others out there? The Effective Manager Program offers tangible, practical skills that managers can implement immediately in the workplace. Managers will build a network of peers that provide support, accountability, and encourage maximum engagement in the program. Other “leadership programs” are virtual, self-led and offer only inspirational content that is neither directly transferable nor measurable in impact or result.
I have a few managers that I’d like to join the program, is that ok?
Of course! We don’t allow more than 4 managers from one organisation to join a single cohort as we want to make sure each cohort has great diversity so if you have more managers that you’d like to join the program you might want to consider running the program internally so we can tailor it specifically toward your business.
What if some of the modules aren’t relevant for my managers?
Based on our experience working with lots of different organisations, we believe that all managers need the capability to do everything within this program, even if it’s just for a refresh. In our experience, participants tell us that it was the modules they didn’t think they needed that were the ones they found most helpful.
I’d like my manager to have 1:1 coaching too, is this something you offer?
Absolutely! We can package this up along with the program depending on how often you’d like to have the coaching sessions.
I’m not sure if this is the program for me, should I still apply?
Definitely. Complete the Expression of Interest and then we can connect and work out whether the program is right for you. You aren’t locked into anything just by completing the Expression of Interest.
