What’s one action you could take to lift the performance of your entire team?
I’ll give you a hint, it starts with you.
When you invest in improving your effectiveness as a manager, you’re investing in improving the performance of your entire team.
When managers invest in their own growth and development, the natural result is better team performance, productivity and engagement.
It’s all about the ripples.
Yes, you’ll pass on the tangible skills that you gain, such as better time management and problem solving, but there’s so many more ripples:
1. Better communication:
Managers who invest in improving their communication skills are more able to effectively communicate expectations and goals to their team, leading to greater clarity, collaboration and cohesiveness. Clarity of expectation is critical to performance. Workgroups that have strong clarity are more profitable, more productive and even more creative.
2. Increased engagement:
When managers are invested in their own development, they’re more likely to be engaged in their work; and higher engagement amongst managers leads to…? You guessed it, higher engagement amongst the team. Engaged managers create a positive, engaging work environment where team members are more motivated to perform at their best.
3. Enhanced Self-Awareness:
No one wants to work for a manager that lacks self-awareness or emotional intelligence. We all want someone who can dial into the unspoken elements of a conversation, who can adapt to our learning and working style, and who knows what motivates and energises us. Better self-awareness means better awareness of others. When managers improve their self-awareness, they’re more able to adapt to, and get the best out of their team.
Can you see the ripples?
So, let me ask you again, what’s one action you could take, today, to lift the performance of your entire team?
I’ll give you another hint, it’s called The Effective Manager Program.
Think of it like the stone you throw into the water that creates the ripples.
Throw the stone and find out what you (and your team) are capable of.
PS – what else would you add to this list?
